  • Hydrolyzed/renal diets testing specially selected proteins or hydrolyzed protein to improve digestibility and reduce progression risk. Cornell University
  • Probiotic trials studying micro biome effects on renal markers and phosphorus metabolism. Michigan State University
  • Oral adsorbent (Porus One) trial aiming to remove gut-derived toxins to improve CKD outcomes. Texas A&M University
    • Registrations closed. Looks like they're in process now. Not finding any publications.
  • Drug trials (sirolimus/Felycin CA-1) targeting aging/fibrosis to slow CKD progression. The Ohio State University

Here's a study on Renaltec (the ingredient in Porus One) from 2024.

The Effect of Renaltec on Serum Uremic Toxins in Cats with Experimentally Induced Chronic Kidney Disease

I have not read the entire thing yet. But it does look like they were able to show once daily dosing helped decrease the toxin markers in the studied cat's blood. Seems like twice daily helped more. Not seeing any major side effects. One thought I have is yes it might show a reduction in those toxin markers, but how does that relate to QoL and longevity. Just because the toxins are theoretically less, that doesn't necessarily equate to an improvement in traditional kidney markers or increased longevity. Maybe you could assume with less toxins the disease progression could be slowed. All in all it does seem like one of those things, for right now at least, that is probably safe and maybe helpful. It will be interesting to see if that Texas A&M study finds anything different.
